When goods are declared through the Trader Support Service portal you will be required to input commodity codes that best match your goods.
Each commodity code, origin and even movement date has it's own requirements, import controls and duties attracted.
This page was created to provide guidance and reference links but we are also here to help so please reach out if there is anything we can support with.
Picking the right commodity code can be difficult, especially if it's not something you have done before. The wrong commodity code can have a big impact on additional charges such as import duty itself, but also safeguarding duty and anti dumping duty.
You do have a few options if ever in doubt, you can ask you supplier, or your manufacture if you are the supplier yourselves. You can also ask HMRC to provide a commodity code for your goods - Link provided on the right.
As always we would be happy to discuss with you to help and advise.
As previously mentioned, commodity codes can have certain import controls and additional codes are required when completing your declarations. If your product you are declaring contains certain types of milk and sugars there is a good chance it will also require a Meursing code.
The link on the right will help you find your code which is usually 4 digits long.
If the shipment your are declaring has multiple goods it is likely each will have a different commodity code which you are required to declare on multiple item lines. This can dramatically increase admin time.
Thankfully there are certain special processes and procedures we can apply to group these together depending on a few factors.
Please feel free to reach out to us and we will be happy to help.
